There was no VBTC News this morning, for “technical reasons,” but yesterday they reported the government’s intention to have land valuation professionals registered.

The Minister for Lands Ralph Regenvanu, met with the Valuer General last month to discuss the concerning standards of valuation which government uses.He was also launching the Valuation Standards of Vanuatu. Regenvanu insists all government valuers are registered.

The private sector is no different and must apply the government standards. Daily Post this morning tells us of the signing of the design phase for the AUD 39 million Port Vila Urban Development Project. Work is scheduled to start in January next year. The Port Vila Lapetasi wharf development project together with the Vanuatu Inter-island Shipping Support Project and supporting tourism infrastructure project are all involved.

The traffic, road and pedestrian management plan is expected to make life much easier for resident and local pedestrians, drivers and tourists alike. It will certainly improve safety. Lini Highway, the Wharf Road, Rue de Paris and Winston Churchill Street will all be improved over 22 km. Drainage is to be improved in the Tebakor, CBD, Ohlen and Seven Stars areas with 25 km of piped drainage and 8 km of open drains. Nearly a kilometer of storm water drainage will also be provided.

The present system of sludge collection and septic tanks will be improved, a treatment and biogas plant established. Public toilet, bathing and washing facilities will be improved in peri-urban villages and training programmes carried out.
